Breathe
I’ve known how to breathe all my life,
at least that’s what I’ve been told.
No one taught me
no one showed me how
I just opened my mouth and
breathe in,
breathe out.
If I never had to learn how to live
why does it sometimes feel
so goddamn hard to fill my lungs
and let go of everything
like I’ve been born to do?
Why did no one tell me about the earth
and how it lives too,
about how when I press my ear to the dirt
I can hear it wheezing and
crying all at once?

someone once said that the Earth is alive
and it inhales children’s footsteps
and exhales the trees whispers

From tree to tree,
Running in the dark,
I tell myself such things,
Slow- so it won't find you,
Breath.
These fires have scorched far and wide,
Leaving the scent of my former cinders to linger in my head,
Like some bad bender,
Warped memories encircling grey,
The ground is made of shattered glass,
Broken dreams.
No lilies remain,
To any kingdom I run,
In mirrors of liquid glass,
Surrealist battles are won,
And like fear,
The spider crawled from my mouth.
They are sedating everything,
Brush pixilated,
Focus changing,
Leaving me to run in the dark,
Caught in the eye of the storm,
Hiding in the calm.

We miss it every day.
We take it for granted every time we do it.
It's difficult to ignore, yet so easy to glance past.
We speak
We write
We eat
We can do amazing feats, but without doing this, we couldn't.
Thinking
Drawing
Working
But yet, none of these are the answer.
Obfuscating around it results in death.
The thing we always forget
Is to simply
Breathe.
